In 2020/2021 the Stevenage Cycle Club arranged to go to the Cyclosportive in Gent-Welvelgem. Fast forward to 2022 the event was on and the group was ready to ride. We stayed in a house close to the end of the race in Wevelgem and travelled on eurotunnel. The road trip was great and some chat from HR to beers. Clearly my focus was to taste some of the excellent Belgium beers but maybe post race !
We started the sportive at 7am to get an early start, I was looking forward to the route but maybe the distance might be tricky at 226km but perfect training for Ironman. The pace was very quick and we grabbed a few groups (think the average speed was 20mph+ for the first 50 miles). The course was great and I loved the hills, I must admit I’m not a fan of cobbles and had to fight hard to hold the wheels. I completed the route with Michele (Speedy) and Nicola (Tout) and we all had our moments.
